Over the last 30 years we have travelled to over 35 countries, and still have a few more we are planning to add to the list.
Now. Let's talk about coffee...
We take it very seriously. We will seek out a new coffee shop with the dedication most people reserve for actual emergencies.
Some people collect souvenirs. We collect coffee spots, and we consider this a perfectly reasonable life choice. ☕️😂
We even brought our fur baby, Patches, over from Australia. He has now retired to South Africa and is living his absolute best life. Honestly, his work-life balance puts ours to shame.
Stephen's two great loves are golf and exercise. He dreams of playing courses all over the world (there is always, always a golf day on our trips), and he goes to the gym every single day (except Sundays) without fail, maintaining what can only be described as a suspiciously impressive six-pack for a man of his vintage. We don't talk about it. I just quietly admire the discipline.
We've been married for 33 years and in business together for most of that time. Some people say never mix marriage and business…clearly we missed that memo 🤪
I'm South African and Stephen was born in Zimbabwe, which probably explains why neither of us has ever been able to sit still for too long.
Over the years we've lived and built businesses in four countries: South Africa, Zimbabwe, the UK and Australia. One thing we've learnt is that the principles of building ANY type of business always stays the same.
In 2020, we decided to take a "gap year" - because parents can do that, right? Our youngest had finished school, the world was our oyster, and we had plans.
Then a global pandemic politely disagreed with those plans. The Australian borders closed, and we found ourselves "stuck" in South Africa for two years. We use the word "stuck" loosely.
So we did what any normal people would do...we bought a house on the beautiful Garden Route and renovated it. Because apparently sitting still, relaxing, or doing nothing was never really on the table.
These days we happily split our time between our homes in South Africa and Australia, travelling whenever we can and collecting new favourite places along the way.
I love anything creative...mosaic, painting, and most recently icing floral cupcakes that are almost too pretty to eat (almost). I also make it to the gym a few times a week, though I have developed a remarkable talent for talking myself out of it with perfectly logical reasoning. It's practically an art form.
At the end of the day, we love a simple life filled with family, friends, beautiful places, strong coffee, and memories we'll still be laughing about for years to come.
